Timeless flooring options to outlast trends

Choosing a new flooring option for your home can be a daunting task, and can often be a struggle to get right. Many of us want to avoid having to change our flooring as frequently as we may be inclined to change the design of a space. Installing new flooring can sometimes be time consuming and expensive. Statement or trending floor types can make a big impact. However they aren’t likely to remain fashionable or versatile as the rest of your space changes. You therefore may be looking to find classic flooring options that are not only durable but are also timeless. We’ve put together a list of timeless flooring options that will remain complementary and provide longevity in your home.

Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood flooring is a classic flooring type that will provide longevity. When maintained correctly they can last as long as 25 years without replacement. Making their initial cost worthy in the long run.  If you are looking for timeless flooring options, choosing classic materials such as oak, maple and cherry will provide you with the most durability. These woods are often on the lighter side, so are often more versatile when it comes to changing colour schemes in your home. Darker woods such as mahogany and walnut, are still timeless, but have much more of a traditional appearance.

Herringbone

An honourable mention from the hardwood selection. Herringbone, a form of parquet flooring, is a design classic. Available in a variety of wood types, and sizes, the style can often make a space feel larger. It’s interlocking chevrons directing the eye forward. This timeless flooring option blends seamlessly with both traditional room decor, and newer more modern design- having been picked up in many Scandinavian minimalist styles. It is a great alternative if you are looking for a more intriguing variation on your traditional wood flooring.

Carpet

Carpets can be a great way to make areas of your home feel cosier and more comfortable. In order to ensure this flooring type feels timeless in your home, you are best opting for more neutral tones. Natural carpet textures such as sisal are very versatile when it comes to designing the rest of your space. They can be textured, but in a very subtle way. Sisal carpets are also much more durable than many other carpet types so are great if you are looking for timeless flooring that will also last for years.

Tiled flooring

Tiled flooring much like hardwood has been popular to use as flooring material for many years now. While now it is primarily reserved for spaces such as kitchens and bathrooms, it still holds a timeless quality. Similarly to when using carpet, it is best to opt for a tile that is quite simple in style, not overly patterned or coloured. This will provide you with the most versatility when it comes to redecorating. If you want more of an interesting look that will still feel timeless, you may want to choose more textured tiles, or even a natural stone tile, in which variation of colour, and textured will occur in a much more subtle, yet timeless way.
