How To Keep Your Office Carpet Looking Its Best

A carpeted office can be cosy, attractive, safe and cost-effective. It’s also likely to be quieter and warmer than an office with laminate or hardwood flooring. However, despite the countless benefits of carpets, they do come with one significant drawback; they can be a challenge to keep clean. Here are our top tips to help you keep your office carpet looking its best:

Clean spillages immediately

The most effective way to prevent stains is by cleaning any spillages as soon as possible after they occur. By familiarising yourself with various stain removal techniques and ensuring you have emergency cleaning tools on hand in the event of an accident, you can clean the mess quickly and get back to work.

Don’t underestimate spilt water

Water spillages may seem harmless but in reality, water damage is one of the most common reasons for a stained office carpet. Not only can excess water cause unsightly patches, it can also increase the likelihood of unpleasant odours and even result in mould. To minimise the risk of water damage, mop spillages immediately and do what you can to dry them.

If the spilt water is unclean or you’ve experienced a flood, you may need to call a professional carpet cleaning company. They’ll be able to determine whether the carpets can be professionally cleaned or whether they need replacing.

Use the right products

The right tools for the job can be the difference between a successful cleanup operation and unattractive stains that can last the lifespan of your carpet.

If a mug of coffee has been spilt, blot up as much of the coffee as you can before gently scrubbing the spillage with a mix of water, washing up liquid and white vinegar.

For grease stains caused by food or oil, you’ll probably need a protein cleaner to treat the problem area. You may also need a steam cleaner to lift the stain completely.

It may be necessary to hire professional cleaning tools from time to time. With the help of a steam cleaner or professional vacuum cleaner, you can often remove tough stains with very little time or effort.

Embrace carpet tiles

The last thing you want to do following an unfixable spillage is to replace the whole carpet. Not only will the carpet itself cost you money, but you’ll also have to take the cost of office downtime into account. Having carpet tiles fitted can be a great way of avoiding disruption to your business. If you ever encounter a stubborn stain that just won’t go away, you’ll only have to replace one or two tiles rather than the entire carpet.
